Photo of the Week #39

I have been reading this book lately entitled Art and Fear and I’m finding many insightful ideas in it.  The authors, David Bayles and Ted Orland, are practicing artists so you know the insights come from a lot of their own experiences.  I decided to use a quote from their book this week because it speaks about one of the main reasons for this feature on my blog.

“The seed of your next art work lies embedded in the imperfections of your current piece. Such imperfections (or mistakes, if you’re feeling particularly depressed about them today) are your guides — valuable, reliable, objective, non-judgmental guides — to matters you need to reconsider or develop further.”
Here’s what we’ve been working on lately:
From Me:
Wood Grain
by Jessica Rogers Photography
From Michelle:
Pelican Paradise

From Sue:

by Sue Templin
From Andrea:
The Earth

From Dee:

Jess: Thanx for creating this blog every week. We are all so different and very talented. It's wonderful to see the mix of photographs every week.

Jessica, your photo is very pretty. The theory that you quoted is something I live by too…if you ever hear a really good jazz player talk about playing music they often quote the same thing- that in our mistakes or in times where art seems to conflict somehow… if you can embrace those times the best rewards come.

Thanks Anika. :) Yeah, this quote really struck me when I read it – when I've had random happy 'mistkaes' happen they usually lead me down a great new path I might not have otherwise explored. And really, the only way to discover these other paths is to keep on making new art.

I love that quote so much that I snatched it for my blog, too. I will have to read the book! Your work is wonderful! Many blessings, Simone aka Alaska_Baskets (new follower on Twitter)

    Thanks everyone!

Simone, I'm glad you like it. I just finished the book the other day and now I want to read it again to see what tidbits I may have missed the first time around! I highly suggest this book to any artist.
