THE IMPORTANCE OF MY SURROUNDINGS

I’ve striven to make the best use of my home studio – to make it organized and easy to get work done. As I’ve spent more time working from home lately, I realized my home studio was certainly functional – it’s been over a year and a half and I’m still thrilled with how my cutting table turned out! And I’d painted over the existing awful blue with a lovely neutral called Ginger Sugar, so it is certainly more pleasant to be in…but it still needed something.

I mean, it was looking fine and I have a few areas that play a dual role of storage and interesting display, but it was lacking inspiration. As a creative, my environment plays a pretty big role when it comes to my mood and energy level. After several months of disappointment and stress surrounding my business, it was getting harder and harder to focus on work for any length of time. I was certainly in need of some external mood boosters!

So, after a bit of reorganizing/straightening up, I pulled out one of each of the fabric images I currently use to make tote bags and clutches and started hanging them on the wall above my long table. (Turns out, there are over 50 of them right now!)

It’s pretty fun to see all of my images together like this and it reminds me of all the things I love. Of course, I had to have some of my camera collection out to enjoy looking at too!

It is definitely a happier space with better energy for me to work in now, and I look forward to getting to be in there every day. Which is really great timing, since I’m about to dive into making my seasonal pillows!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little glimpse into my home studio – if so, let me know in the comments – I may share more mini-tours from time to time!

P.S. If you would like to be among the first to find out when those seasonal pillows are available in my online store, make sure you’re on my email list! You’ll find a quick signup form at the bottom of the page.
